Reflect My first artifact is a math lesson on probability that shows the understanding of how the math concept of probability was incorporated into this 1st grade lesson, which is one of the requirements in the curriculum according to Texas standards. The lesson encourages my knowledge of this math concept as well as using the student’s prior knowledge to help them learn the concept of probability. I am able to assist students in learning what probability is by using situations in their daily lives that will help students understand the concept of probability. Through the usage of skittles students are able to see how probability is done through math. My second artifact is a reflection over a lesson I presented to a first grade class. This artifact shows how my knowledge of the subject had to be put to a challenge by adjusting my lesson to fit a first grade classroom. Due to placement issues in my university instead of being put into a third grade classroom, in which we had originally written our lessons for we were put into a first grade I classroom. Because the first grade classroom was a bilingual classroom I had to present my lesson in the Spanish language using material that was in English. The artifact talks about other modifications I made as a teacher to be able to fit this lesson to the group of students I was presenting it to.
Project These artifacts have helped me as a learner to see how important it as a teacher to be knowledgeable of the subject in which you are teaching to be able to develop instructions that will help your student’s development skills and at the same time help you as a teacher accomplish your curriculum goals. Being knowledgeable of what you are teaching enables you to make modifications or adjustments that will fit the needs of the students whom you are teaching to make their learning experiences meaningful and effective.
These artifacts will help me in my practice become a more open minded teacher and be aware that lessons should be made to be adjusted to fit the needs of your students. I hope to use my knowledge as teacher and share that knowledge with my students through my lesson planning enabling me to meet my curriculum goals for my classroom.
